Young Women’s Group
The Gugan Gulwan Young Women’s Group (YWG) is a dedicated program designed to support the unique needs of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the ACT region. The group meets every Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM during school terms.
This holistic program provides young women aged 12–16 years with opportunities to develop essential life skills, participate in group-based learning, and engage in culturally informed activities. Throughout the program, participants explore cultural awareness and practices, learn practical living skills, and build a strong understanding of healthy living and nutrition.
The program also supports young women to strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem, develop effective teamwork skills, and recognise the qualities of healthy relationships.
Through advocacy-focused sessions and activities that highlight the importance of identifying and building positive support networks, the YWG encourages independence, personal growth, and self‑advocacy. With a strong emphasis on social and community inclusion, the program fosters a culturally safe, non‑judgmental environment where young women can deepen their identity, connect with peers, and gain knowledge that supports their wellbeing and future pathways.
