Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we walk, work, live and learn. We honour Elders past and present and extend our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who now call this region home. We recognise the strength, wisdom and care they bring to community, and the vital role they play in supporting our young people and families to grow strong, connected and thriving together.
Youth Week – Annual Touch Day
Gugan Gulwan hosted a Youth Touch Football Day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and the services that support them across the ACT. The event was held in honour of Dougie Hampson-Chatfield, who passed away in August 2021 at the age of 36. Doug grew up in Canberra and remained closely connected to Gugan Gulwan throughout his youth, with his family continuing those strong ties today. The day brought together seven teams in a celebration of community, culture, and sport. The Douglas Memorial Team, made up of family members, were the outright winners – playing with passion and flair in a fitting tribute to Doug. The event was delivered in collaboration with ACT Touch Football and attracted approximately 100 young people at Boomanulla Oval, the heart of the local community.
