Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we walk, work, live and learn. We honour Elders past and present and extend our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who now call this region home. We recognise the strength, wisdom and care they bring to community, and the vital role they play in supporting our young people and families to grow strong, connected and thriving together.

Young Men’s Mentoring Group

The Gugan Gulwan Young Men’s Mentoring Group (YMMG) is a culturally grounded program designed to support the wellbeing, development, and identity of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys in the ACT region. The group meets every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM during school terms. This holistic, strengths-based program provides young men aged 8–12 years with opportunities to build essential living skills, develop positive behaviours, and strengthen their cultural identity in a safe and supportive environment. Through physical activities, group learning, and regular yarning sessions, participants deepen their understanding of healthy living, nutrition, teamwork, and emotional regulation, including strategies for managing anger.

The program also focuses on nurturing self-confidence and self-esteem, encouraging the formation of positive support networks, and helping young men recognise and build healthy relationships. With an emphasis on cultural awareness, identity, and community inclusion, the YMMG supports young participants to connect with culture, build respectful relationships, and grow into strong, confident young leaders guided by positive male role models.
