YOUNG WOMEN’S GROUP Wednesday afternoons at Gugan during school terms 4pm-6pm

The Gugan Gulwan Young Women’s Group (YWG) is a tailored program to meet the needs of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women aged between 12-15 years in the ACT region.

  • Advocacy
  • Self -confidence /self esteem
  • Teamwork
  • Healthy relationships awareness
  • Identifying and building informal and formal support networks 
  • Social/Community inclusion
MUSIC PROGRAM Every Monday afternoon at Gugan 4-5pm during school terms
The Gugan Gulwan Music program is designed to engage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the ACT region who have an interest or passion for music. The music program is for young people at elemental or intermediate levels. The program provides a range of musical instruments with ongoing music tuition and performance opportunities. 
YOUNG MEN’S MENTORING GROUP Thursday afternoons at Gugan from 4-6pm during school terms

The Gugan Gulwan Young Men’s Mentoring Group is a tailored targeted program for young men aged 8 – 12 years. The delivery of this program is to service an unmet need for support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young men in the ACT region.

  • Identifying and building informal and formal support networks
  • Social/community inclusion
  • Self-confidence /self-esteem/resilience

COMMUNITY ART PROGRAM Every Tuesday 11am-3pm at Burrunju Art Gallery during school terms

This Gugan Gulwan Community Art program is for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. The program is designed to alleviate isolation, support any needs or concerns and to promote inclusion.

Program Objectives:

  • Drug and Alcohol informal information sessions in an informal, non-threatening environment;
  • Healing through Art;
  • Mental Health information and support;
  • Promotion of healthy lifestyles and decision making;
  • Healthy relationship awareness;
  • Encourage and promote cultural practices and understanding;
  • Referrals and linkages;
  • Self-confidence/self-esteem/resilience;
  • Continuity of care;
  • Family and individual support
TUTORING PROGRAM 10 x 1-hour session delivered via Canberra Tutoring for children attending school from Year 2 to Year 12.
The Gugan Gulwan Tutoring Program is an individualised program of support for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are needing additional one on one learning support in the ACT region.  The program addresses the challenges many young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students face to remain engaged in education and learning. The Tutoring program is free for eligible students for a maximum of 10/1hr sessions per year.  Tutoring sessions are delivered through Canberra Tutoring.
PARENTING OUR WAY The Gugan Gulwan Parenting Our Way program is delivered on Tuesdays mornings at Gugan Gulwan. Parenting Our Way sessions are scheduled to address needs of community members and availability of subject matter experts.

The Gugan Gulwan Parenting Our Way (POW) is a tailored program to meet the needs of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families in the ACT region.
